About Anthony

I am one of Australia’s most experienced travel and nature writers. For more than two decades, I have been travelling to the earth’s wild places in search of stories, to Africa, the Amazon, the Arctic, and to Outback Australia. My work has appeared in The Age, Sydney Morning Herald, The Monthly, Virginia Quarterly Review (VQR), National Geographic Traveler, BBC Wildlife, Lonely Planet Traveller, Africa Geographic, The Independent, Travel Africa, and elsewhere. My first book – The Last Lions of Africa: Stories from the Frontline in the Battle to Save a Species – was published by Allen & Unwin on 4 August 2020. My second book (2022) will tell the story of one man’s, and one community’s, extraordinary battle to save the Brazilian Amazon, and I have signed a contract to write a 3rd book, about the Australian Outback (2023). I have also written or co-written more than 135 guides for Lonely Planet, including Botswana & Namibia, South Africa, Southern Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, East Africa, West Africa, Brazil, Spain, Madrid, Norway, Australia, and Western USA. Now, more than ever, travelers want intimate, first-hand, sustainable experiences that inspire people to experience the world in new ways. I have made a career out of doing just that.
