Omeriye Mosque

Nicosia (Lefkosia)

Originally the Augustinian Church of St Mary, the Omeriye Mosque dates from the 14th century, with its tall minarets added after its conversion in 1571. This is a working mosque that serves Nicosia's diverse Arab and Asian Muslim population. Non-Muslims may visit as long as you observe the general etiquette required: dress conservatively, leave shoes at the door and avoid official prayer times.
