From 1926 until 1975, Tsalapatas Rooftile and Brickworks, 1.5km west of the port at the Old Town’s South Gate, formed part of the cultural fabric of Volos. The factory reopened in 2006 as a handsome and surprisingly interesting museum, displaying brickmaking machinery, grinding mills and massive kilns, plus frequent art exhibits.
