The COVID-19 outbreak has curtailed travel around the world, leaving US travelers seeking out experiences a bit closer to home. Now, Amtrak is once again offering its private rooms at a discounted price for those eager to getaway.
11 Amtrak routes with the most breathtaking views
According to Amtrak, when one person buys a ‘roomette’ they can have a companion join for free. Roomettes are offered on routes around the country and are found in the sleeping car. They have two seats that can convert to upper and lower berths at night. Each has their own window, fresh towels and linens and access to a private restroom and shower. This latest deal is available from 11 to 15 August, for travel from August 14 through September 30.
Roomettes are available on the California Zephyr, Capitol Limited, Cardinal, City of New Orleans, Coast Starlight, Crescent, Empire Builder, Lake Shore Limited, Silver Service, Southwest Chief, Sunset Limited and Texas Eagle.
Prices for two passengers to travel together one-way range from US$193 to travel from Chicago to Minneapolis-St Paul, or US$416 for New York City to Savannah. To book the deal, which is subject to availability, go to the Fare Finder from this page or enter code V538 when booking with the Amtrak app.
Amtrak has also announced a number of new cleaning and contact-free measures during the coronavirus outbreak. Find out about the measures here.
