A hotel in northwest England has charged a couple £100 after they left a negative review on TripAdvisor. Tony and Jan Jenkinson described the Broadway Hotel in Blackpool as a ‘rotten stinking hovel’. They later found that they had been charged an additional £100 for their stay. The hotel’s booking document warns that ‘for every bad review left on any website, the group organiser will be charged’. A previous reviewer had complained that staff drank cans of cider while serving breakfast. Trading standards officials are investigating the hotel’s policy, which may be illegal.
