Meow Wolf is getting into the grocery business. Next year, the company behind Santa Fe’s blockbuster art installation will open its first market in Las Vegas, with a new experience that promises to be every bit as trippy as the original.
Dubbed Omega Mart, the 52,000 sq foot space will be Meow Wolf’s second permanent installation after House of Eternal Return in New Mexico, and a press release promises “an even richer storyline [with] elevated narrative and technical elements” – not to mention an assortment of products with “an uncanny ability to fulfill desires beyond expectation.”
The store is slated to open in early 2021, and judging by a teaser video on posted on the website, advertising magic meat, nebula loaf, and a few items that bear a strikingly suspicious resemblance to human organs, it won’t be a mundane shopping experience.
“Our exhibit will bring storytelling alive through a hands-on experience of art,” Omega Mart’s senior creative producer, Marsi Gray, said in a statement. “Collaborating artists local to Las Vegas and from around the world – plus our forged team of storytellers, fabricators, and artists in Santa Fe – are creating an unforgettable experience.”
The installation will anchor the AREA15 experiential retail and entertainment complex, and it will be the company’s third location after a 2019 expansion to Denver, for the world’s first artist-driven ride. The project is being brought to life by 50-some global artists, both visual and musical, plus a team of creatives several hundred strong, including local residents like Eric Vozzola and artists like Amon Tobin and Claudia Bueno. Meow Wolf co-founders Corvas Brinkerhoff and Emily Montoya lead the creative team.
“We are on the innovative edge of what entertainment can be. We are in the business of transformative experiences,” Gray said. “Participants of all ages can expect something entirely new from Meow Wolf’s popular House of Eternal Return, but will also enter fantastic worlds of story, humor, and spectacle if they accept our invitation – to play.” For more information, visit omegamart.com.
