The city of Venice woke on 9 January to find themselves enveloped in a blanket of thick fog.

While the ghostly pictures are far from the romantic view of the city that many have, January can be a rewarding time to travel to Venice. There are no cruise ships and the issue of overtourism is practically non-existent. It is possible to see the famous sights without battling the crowds, if you can stand the colder weather.
